Some autonomies are formally secured, while others are informal. The shared leadership structure is outlined in the charter agreement and the Teacher Directorate is identified as the decision-making body. We have more detailed and defined systems that are part of school culture and the professional development of the staff.

About the Learning Program

Mountain City Public Montessori initially enrolled 106 students in grades K-6, and will expand to nearly 200 students at full enrollment at our present location.

Using the Montessori method, we educate the whole child, integrating their physical, social-emotional, cultural, and academic needs and interests. Our multi-age classrooms encourage care, connection, and collaboration with peers. Uninterrupted periods of self-directed work foster each child’s love of learning, allow them to develop their concentration, and create a natural environment for building executive functioning skills. Students work with hands-on materials in carefully prepared environments to promote learning in a way that is tangible and intuitive. We believe all students deserve access to a quality education that affirms each individual and enhances the collective by giving them an opportunity to practice living in and contributing to a more just society.
