National Education Association Commission on Effective Teachers and Teaching December 2011 Report
In 2010, the National Education Association created a Commission on Effective Teachers and Teaching–a group of 21 accomplished teachers and educational leaders from around the country–to “craft a new vision of a teaching profession that is led by teachers and ensures teacher and teaching effectiveness” among other things.
After working with dozens of experts and thousands of teachers from every kind of school and community, the Commission’s December 2011 report concluded: “We envision a teaching profession that embraces collective accountability for student learning balanced with collaborative autonomy that allows educators to do what is best for students…”
